This Southern Chocolate Cobbler is a warm, gooey, and utterly decadent dessert. It’s incredibly easy to make, creating a rich chocolate sauce underneath a soft, cake-like top. Perfect for a cozy night in or a crowd-pleasing dessert.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Butter (salted or unsalted) 1/2 cup (1 stick)
Granulated Sugar 1 1/2 cups
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 3/4 cup
Self-Rising Flour 1 cup
Milk (any type) 1 cup
Vanilla Extract 1 teaspoon
Boiling Water 1 3/4 cups

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Turn your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt Butter: Put the butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place the dish in the oven to melt the butter.
  3. Mix Batter: In a bowl, mix the 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of cocoa powder, self-rising flour, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour Batter: Take the baking dish out of the oven. Pour the batter over the melted butter. Do not stir.
  5. Mix Topping: In a separate small bowl, mix the 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder.
  6. Sprinkle Topping: Sprinkle the sugar-cocoa mixture evenly over the batter.
  7. Pour Water: Carefully pour the boiling water over the top of the batter. Do not stir.
  8. Bake: Put the baking dish back in the oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
  9. Check Cobbler: The top should be set, but the bottom will still be a little saucy.
  10. Cool: Let the cobbler cool for 15 minutes before serving.
  11. Serve: Serve warm. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Enjoy!
