“My husband was looking around for the packaging because he couldn’t believe I made these from scratch haha”

These Quick & Easy Scones are wonderfully light, tender, and incredibly simple to make. With a hint of sweetness and a golden, slightly crunchy top, they’re perfect for a delightful breakfast, afternoon tea, or anytime you crave a freshly baked treat.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Flour 3 cups
Sugar ⅓ cup
Salt 1 teaspoon
Baking powder 1/2 tablespoon
Baking soda ½ teaspoon
Butter, chilled and cubed ¾ cup
Buttermilk 1 cup
Egg 1
Vanilla 2 teaspoons
Egg white, beaten 1
Turbinado sugar 2 tablespoons

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven & Prep Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. Cut in Butter: Add the chilled, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a fork or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Slowly add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Overmixing can lead to tough scones.
  6. Laminate Dough (for flakiness): Divide the dough in two. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one half of the dough. Fold the dough in half, then fold it in quarters. Roll it out again and repeat this folding process to help create flaky layers (this is a simplified lamination). Repeat with the second half of the dough.
  7. Shape and Cut: Shape each half of the dough into a 6-inch disc. Using a sharp knife or a bench scraper, cut each disc into 6 equal pieces (like cutting a pizza). Arrange the scone pieces on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Egg Wash & Sugar: Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg white and generously sprinkle with turbinado sugar for a golden, sparkly crust.
  9. Bake: Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top and cooked through.
