Joke of the day: An old man calls his son and says, “Listen, your mother and I are getting divorced. Forty-five years of…”

A man, quite old, called his son on the phone. “Son,” he began, his voice a bit shaky, “your mother and I… well, we’re going to get a divorce.”
The son was shocked. “Dad! What are you saying? After forty-five years of marriage?”
The old man sighed. “Forty-five years of, well, let’s just say we’ve had enough. We just can’t stand each other anymore. I’m tired of looking at her. I’m tired of talking about it. Just… just tell your sister.” And with that, he hung up the phone.
The son, now very worried, quickly called his sister. “You won’t believe this,” he told her, “Dad says he and Mom are getting a divorce!”
His sister was just as stunned. “No way!” she exclaimed. “They can’t be serious!” She immediately picked up her own phone and called their father. “Dad,” she said, her voice firm, “you are not getting a divorce! Don’t do anything rash. Your brother and I are coming home tomorrow. We’re going to talk about this. And until we get there, don’t call any lawyers. Don’t sign any papers. Do you understand me?” She was very upset and made sure he knew she meant business. Then, she hung up, just as her father had done.
The old man, after hanging up, turned to his wife, a little smile playing on his lips. “Well,” he said to her, “looks like they’re both coming home for Christmas. And the best part? They’re paying for their own plane tickets!”
