Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Olive oil 1 tablespoon
Ground beef 1 lb
White rice 1 cup
Water 3/4 cup
Beef consommé 1 (10.5 ounce) can
Unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 1/2 cup
Large thyme sprigs 2
Kosher salt To taste
Freshly cracked black pepper To taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven and prepare dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with baking spray.
  2. Cook the ground beef: In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the ground beef until it is cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Combine ingredients in baking dish: In the prepared baking dish, combine the cooked ground beef, white rice, water, and beef consommé. Stir to combine.
  4. Add butter and thyme: Distribute the small pieces of unsalted butter evenly over the top of the rice mixture. Place the thyme sprigs on top.
  5. Cover and bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Uncover and continue baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove thyme and fluff rice: Remove the thyme sprigs. Fluff the rice with a fork. Season with kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste.
  8. Serve: Serve the beef and rice warm and enjoy!
