Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Set your oven to 400°C.
- Spray a 14 x 11 x 2 x baking dish with non-stick spray and set it aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Potatoes
- Peel 5 pounds of russet potatoes and cut them into thin slices, approximately 1/8″ thick.
- Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl until ready to use.
Step 3: Saute Onions and Garlic
- In a large skillet, melt half a cup of butter over low heat.
- Add 2 cups of finely chopped onion and 6 cloves of minced garlic.
- Fry the mixture for 4-5 minutes until fragrant.
Step 4: Create the Sauce
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour over the onion and garlic mixture, stirring and cooking for a few minutes.
- Gently pour 1 1/2 cups of vegetable broth into the skillet.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of pepper, 2 teaspoons of Slap Spice, Mama, and 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream.
- Stir until the mixture is firm, then remove from heat just before boiling.
- Add 1 cup of shredded Pepper Jack cheese and mix until melted.
